Over 125,000 people in southern Russia’s Ural region and in northern Kazakhstan, with at least 110,000 people in Kazakhstan alone, have been evacuated due to rapid snowmelt causing major flooding of the Ural River. The region, along with neighboring countries, continue to battle rising waters, prompting a state of emergency. The flooding marks Kazakhstan’s worst disaster in 80 years, with reports indicating the worst of the flooding is still to come.
